Marsh Supermarkets made waves around the midwest in 1966 when it entered the fast-growing convenience store segment. By the time the company was sold to a private equity firm forty years later, it operated 154 Village Pantries around Indiana and Ohio! Many of the oldest have been repurposed. I try to take a photo when I drive past one.

The building that once housed Muncie’s fourth Village Pantry stands at 4000 North Wheeling Avenue on the site of the former Huffman’s Market1. The 3,300-square-foot building included a separate room for carry-out beer and wine sales, though I’m not sure if it was ever used for that purpose2. Opened in 1968, the store stocked approximately 3,000 items3.Â
The Village Pantry at Wheeling and Rosewood appears to have operated through 1998. Today, it’s home to Save-On Liquor4.Â

I used to go in Huffmans meat market. They were the building next and north to the pantry as far as I remember.
Nice! I never went to Huffmans.
In 1975 or 1976 the separate room you stated was for carry out booze was a bicycle store. Hamms House of Bicycles. A family named Hammerstein owned it. The other part was still an operating village pantry.
Thanks for the tip!
