This has been a slow month for new graffiti. The first day of May brought every car I expected to receive but two, so I checked out the yard that afternoon. That initial haul added eight new tags to my increasing collection of photos; enough to welcome you back to another edition of railcar spotting.

Railcar spotting: April, 2024
I’d never been close to graffiti until I started working at a plastics factory that receives material by rail. Early on, I decided take pictures of the pieces I liked. I’ve kept it up and shared my favorites every month, so welcome to railcar spotting for April, 2024! It’s hard to believe, but this is my ninth installment.

2024 has proven a banner year for railcar spotting so far. January kicked things off with a diverse slate of art, and February brought a kaleidoscope of color. March brought triumph and tragedy, but the provocative parade of pieces persisted.

Winter stripped Indiana of its color. Fortunately, the rail yard at work remained unscathed! In February, splashes of saturation transformed the gritty, gray landscape into a feast for the senses. Welcome back to another round of railcar spotting.

The rail yard at work was bleak, blank, and barren from my vantage point through most of the new year. After a mild start, things turned miserable during January’s third week! I knew I’d have to plod around in freezing windchills to find decent graffiti inside the yard, so I ran out just as the subzero forecasts came in. My trip didn’t reveal a lot, but what I found was diverse.

I started taking iPhone photos of the most interesting railcars we receive at work this past May. I never thought it’d lead to a series, but here we are: I’ve shared thirty-nine pictures of graffiti since I started posting about them back in September. I’ve had a chance to look them all over over the past few days, and here are the best of what 2023 had to offer.

Traffic in and out of our rail yard at work is finally slowing down as we approach our year-end shutdown. I figured our decreasing shipments would lead to a dormant month of railcar spotting, but December has proven to be the most colorful on record. I’m glad it was enough to supply the last monthly edition of railcar spotting for 2023!

Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday of mine, but I’ve celebrated it differently since I was a kid. These days, elaborate feasts with extended family have given way to more intimate gatherings. In contrast to previous years, I’ve got little on my plate today. That makes it perfect for a new edition of Railcar SpottingTM.

I work at the only factory in my company equipped to send and receive materials by rail. At the risk of sounding like a dweeb, I love seeing all the graffiti as it comes and goes! I’ve shared photos of our incoming railcars occasionally, but last month I predicted that new installments would slow as the year winds down. I was wrong. Railcar spotting continues!

I assumed that sharing railcar graffiti I found at work would be a recurring feature here, but I didn’t expect to get a fresh batch so soon! I’d have held off publishing them, but my folder of unfinished posts keeps growing and I’m impulsive. In that spirit, here’s some more railcar spotting.
